Seoul Style: cycle fashion and accessories design

Due to the broad paramiters of this assignment and the complex, evolving Seoul culture, there are a lot of interesting directions this project could be taken. I have decided to bridge the gab between recreational, trendy biking and transportational, practical cycling through accesories. In my design I will take into consideration mostly climate concerns, fashion awareness, and practicality. The target market for such a product is a young adult, possibly a student or a young professional. Someone who does not have disposable income to purchase a car or constantly ride the subway but is in need of quick transportation. I will design a bike accesory ment to transport whatever a young person may need to carry, such as books, a lap top, briefcase, or a change of clothers. I am not looking to create a bag of sorts, but more so a pack that is connected to the bike and follows the form and shape of the bike. The design aesthetics will mimick the clean, classy, and brightly colored aesthetics found in fixed gear Seoul style.

MoodBoard #2

This mood board reflects my research regarding existing bike safety, maintenance, and accesory products. It is important to know what is already on the market when designing a product for similar uses. I wish to incorporate as many of these ideas and designs as I can into one simple multi-functional product. I will focus on safety and bike maintenance but will add a stylish twist so that the product will appeal to the young and hip population in Seoul South Korea.

Seoul Cycle Style: Mood Board

This mood board depicts the research I came across and found most interesting and applicable to Seoul bike culture. The youth culture is vibrant and exciting with interesting, trendy, and upscale style. Fashion is a big part of the fixed gear biking industry, but even more than that functionality and practicality are important aspects of design. The key points of inspiration I will translate into my own designs are: the bright colors found in Seoul pop culture, the translation of green design in a highly urbanized city, and functionality in a wet and humid climate.
